When a musician walks into B&B Audioconcepts Cardiff, the brief is going to be different. Not better volume. Not more bass. Not just “upgrade the radio.” A musician hears things that most people simply don’t — and when the system doesn’t meet that standard, they know it immediately.

This customer’s VW Tiguan came with a factory 10-channel Harman Kardon system — a setup that sounds impressive on paper and genuinely decent to the average ear. But to a musician? Disappointing. Unclear imaging. Vague soundstage. Bass that lacked definition. Not the sound of someone who spends their life listening critically to music.

Her brief was precise: “Make it clearer. Plenty of kick. Don’t let me see any changes — no holes, no aftermarket equipment visible.” The interior stays perfect. The result is extraordinary. And the car was with us for several days — because this build deserved every minute of the time we spent on it.

Stage 1 — Skinz Sound Deadening: Building the Foundation

Before a single speaker was fitted, every door and the entire floor pan were treated with Skinz Pro Black sound deadening. This is non-negotiable on a build of this ambition — and for a musician’s ear in particular, it is the step that makes everything else possible.

The VW Tiguan’s factory door skins resonate at frequencies that directly conflict with the music being reproduced. Road noise enters the cabin and masks the very detail and clarity the customer came to us for. Skinz applied across all four doors and the floor pan eliminates resonance, dramatically reduces road and tyre noise, and transforms each door cavity into a proper acoustic enclosure for the speakers to work within. On a build this sophisticated, the acoustic environment matters as much as the components inside it.

Stage 2 — Audison Voce II: Italian Flagship Speakers for a Musician’s Ear

For the front stage, the choice was the Audison Voce II AVK 6 S II — the second generation of Audison’s flagship component speaker system, developed using the same acoustic simulation methodology as their legendary Thesis range. Hi-Res Audio certified, capable of reproducing frequencies beyond 40kHz, and engineered to deliver a natural, precise, fatigue-free presentation that rewards critical listening.

For someone who makes music professionally, the Voce II’s character is immediately apparent — instruments placed accurately in space, vocals forward and present, transient response fast enough that no musical detail is lost. This is not a speaker that impresses on first listen and becomes tiresome. This is a speaker that reveals more the longer you listen to it.

Stage 2 — Audison Forza AF M12.14 bit: The Brain of the System

The Audison Forza AF M12.14 bit is Audison’s flagship processor-amplifier — a single unit combining 12 channels of Hi-Res Audio certified amplification with a 14-bit 32-channel DSP processor. This is not standard car audio equipment. This is professional-grade signal processing in a form factor designed for automotive installation.

The critical challenge on this Tiguan was retaining all the functionality of the factory Harman Kardon system whilst bypassing its limitations. The Forza’s 10 OEM inputs allowed us to connect directly to the factory system’s outputs — reading the Harman Kardon’s signal, processing it through Audison’s 14-bit DSP, and redistributing it cleanly across all 12 output channels. The factory head unit, steering controls, navigation integration and vehicle functions all remain completely untouched. The customer cannot see a single aftermarket component.

Stage 3 — Audison APBX 10 DS: Deep Bass You Can’t See

The customer’s requirement was explicit — no visible aftermarket equipment. A traditional subwoofer enclosure was not an option. The Audison APBX 10 DS is specifically engineered for exactly this challenge: a 10-inch high-performance subwoofer in an ultra-flat sealed box only a few centimetres deep, designed to slide beneath a boot floor or against a side wall with minimal visual footprint.

Rated at 800 watts with a dual voice coil configuration and powered by a dedicated bridged channel of the Audison Forza, the APBX 10 DS delivers the low-frequency foundation the rest of the system needs — controlled, musical bass that supports the Voce II front stage without ever drawing attention to itself. The Tiguan’s boot space and appearance remain completely unchanged. The bass does not.

Stage 4 — The Tuning: Where Good Systems Become Great Ones

Fitting premium components is only half the work. The other half — often the more important half — is tuning. And on a 12-channel active system with a musician as the customer, the tuning session was extensive, methodical and uncompromising.

Using Audison bit Drive software, every aspect of the system was calibrated in the vehicle. Parametric EQ applied to each of the 11 active output channels to correct for the acoustic signature of the Tiguan’s interior. Crossover points set precisely so each driver operates only within its optimal frequency range. Time alignment calculated and applied for every speaker position — compensating for the physical distances between each driver and the listening position, so sound from every speaker arrives at the ear simultaneously regardless of its location in the car.

The result — as the screen in that photograph shows — is a complex but precisely controlled system. Multiple EQ curves all balanced. All crossover slopes correct. All levels matched. A soundstage that a professional musician described as awesome. That is the standard this team held itself to, and the standard it delivered.

The Sensible Finish — Autowatch Ghost 2 Immobiliser

After investing significantly in this audio system, the customer made a very sensible decision — adding an Autowatch Ghost 2 CAN bus immobiliser to protect it. The Ghost 2 communicates directly with the Tiguan’s ECU via the CAN bus network, requiring a unique PIN sequence entered through the factory steering wheel buttons before the car can be started. No key fobs, no radio signals, no external signs of fitting — and no way to start the car without the correct sequence, even with the original key.

A five-figure audio investment deserves five-star security. The Ghost 2 delivers exactly that — and it was the right call.
