A Mercedes GLE owner came in to B&B Audioconcepts Cardiff with a boot full of Chinese-spec tech products and a very clear vision for his car. He doesn’t speak English — not a word. We don’t speak Mandarin — not a word. But between Google Translate, a lot of patience and a phone call or two to China for technical answers, we made the whole thing work.
And fair play — wherever we had a question on the installation, he could message China directly and get the right answer back in under five minutes. That’s genuinely useful. Faster than waiting for a UK technical support line any day. The language barrier didn’t stop a single thing from being fitted correctly.

OEM-Style Twin Dashcams — front and rear recording, designed to look factory-fit and plugging directly into the original ports in the headliner. Invisible unless you look for them - ✓
Head-Up Display — speed and navigation information projected onto the windscreen. Not the most complex HUD on the market, but exactly what the customer wanted and coded in correctly - ✓
Burmester-Style Ambient Door Grilles — LED-ringed speaker grilles on all four doors giving the visual signature of a high-end audio system, coded into the ambient system
The Motorised Tweeters — They Move, They Light Up, He Loves Them
The motorised ambient tweeters are the showpiece of this build. Fitted to the A-pillar on both sides, each unit rotates smoothly when activated — the brushed metal housing catching the light as it turns, the purple LED ring glowing around the driver. When they move and illuminate simultaneously as the car starts, it’s a genuinely dramatic visual moment.
Do they rival the acoustic performance of a dedicated high-end component speaker? No. Waz said it himself in the video: that’s not what they’re for. But this customer knew exactly what he wanted, and on his terms — movement, light, visual theatre — they deliver completely. It’s his car. If that’s what he likes, that’s what he gets.
The Crystal Smart Air Freshener — Coded Into the Car
The smart negative ion air freshener is one of the more interesting items in this build — a crystal-bodied illuminated unit that sits in the centre console and is controlled directly through the Mercedes MBUX system. The negative ion technology purifies the cabin air continuously whilst the LED illumination syncs with the ambient colour scheme. When it glows purple, the crystal body scatters the light beautifully across the interior woodgrain.
The Finished Interior — Everything Coded, Everything Working
With all four dashboard air vents fitted with LED ambient rings and integrated into the factory MBUX system, the dashboard transformation is striking. The Mercedes GLE’s own ambient lighting system runs alongside the new additions — the whole interior in purple, with every vent, door panel, seat surround and tweeter unit lit consistently. It’s controlled entirely through the original Mercedes touchscreen. No additional controllers, no extra apps, no separate remotes.
The door grilles follow the same visual language as Burmester’s high-end speaker finishes — the concentric circle pattern in brushed metal with a full LED halo ring in purple. Combined with the motorised tweeters above them, each door becomes an ambient feature in its own right.
No shared language. No printed manual in English. A lot of Google Translate.
Everything fitted. Everything coded. Everything working perfectly. Job done.

The Honest Take — When It’s the Customer’s Car, It’s the Customer’s Choice
B&B Audioconcepts wouldn’t ordinarily recommend this combination of products. The motorised tweeters are primarily visual rather than acoustic upgrades. The head-up display is functional rather than flagship. Some of the Chinese ambient tech is impressive in its execution but not something we’d normally supply.
But this customer arrived knowing exactly what he wanted, with exactly the products he’d chosen, and with the technical knowledge — through direct access to the Chinese suppliers — to answer every installation question that came up. Our job was to fit everything correctly and make it all work together properly within the factory Mercedes system. And that’s exactly what happened.
At the end of the day, if that’s what he likes, that’s what he likes. The car still feels factory. Everything works through the original screen. And the customer left extremely happy — which is always the only measure that matters.
